You will be joining a market leading international bank within a growing and dynamic team as a Senior Legal Counsel focusing on corporate banking based in Sydney.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a seasoned Senior Legal Counsel to join a dynamic and highly respected team. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys working closely with senior management, and has a passion for managing legal, compliance, AML, sanctions and financial crime risks across various business units. The successful candidate will have the chance to work not only within Australia but also collaborate with counterparts and business partners regionally outside Australia where warranted.

What you'll do:
Responsibilities include:

• Provide sound and responsive advice on current and developments of key laws and regulations
• Responsible for implementing relevant policies and frameworks including gap and impact analysis
• Ensure appropriate procedures are developed to manage legal, compliance and regulatory risk matters effectively
• Review documentation to ensure adherence to legal and regulatory requirements
• Maintain regulatory relationships and engage with regulators where necessary
• Conduct compliance reviews and risk assessments of business areas
• Design and lead legal and compliance programmes, policies, standards and regulations
• Monitor business activities against the Branch's licences and authorisations

What you bring:
The ideal candidate for the Senior Legal Counsel position brings a wealth of experience from the Legal or Compliance function in wholesale banking.

• Minimum of 6 years' experience in the Legal function in wholesale banking
• Experience working in-house within a bank is essential
• Holds current Australian practising certificate
• Sound knowledge of banking documentation, regulations and best practices
• Advanced ability to interpret and apply legal requirements to wholesale banking products
• Demonstrated ability to apply sound judgement
• Excellent time management skills with the ability to meet timelines
