The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) works in partnership with 15 National Boards to implement the national regulatory scheme for health professionals. The purpose of health practitioner regulation is to protect the public by ensuring that only health practitioners who have the skills, qualifications, and knowledge to provide safe care are registered.

Ahpra works in partnership with 15 National Boards to ensure the community has access to a safe health workforce across all professions registered under the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme. Public safety is always the number one priority. Every decision that is made is guided by the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law (the National Law), as in force in each state and territory.

About the role:

As the National Manager for Health Safety and Wellbeing, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the organisation's approach to employee wellness. You will be responsible for leading a team of professionals dedicated to promoting a culture of wellness within the organisation. Your role will involve overseeing the implementation of the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Management System Framework while also providing strategic advice to senior stakeholders.

You will work closely with various teams within the organisation to ensure that the approach to health, safety and wellbeing is integrated into every aspect of operations and report to the National Director, Employee Services.


Key responsibilities:

  • Lead the management and implementation of health, safety, and wellbeing strategies across the organisation
  • Provide a central point of escalation, review, and approval on all aspects of health, safety and wellbeing
  • Oversee the review and implementation of the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Management System Framework
  • Drive a strong National health, safety and wellbeing focus
  • Lead the development of clear, consistent reporting on all health, safety and wellbeing work
  • Manage a team of health, safety and wellbeing professionals, providing leadership and mentoring opportunities to support professional growth and development
  • Drive all aspects of Ahpra's health safety and wellbeing initiatives in the People Strategy team
  • Prior experience in a similar Health, Safety & Environment leadership role
  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline or commensurate experience managing national injury management
  • Experience managing a team of HSW professionals
  • Demonstrated success in driving the implementation of HSW strategies
  • Experience in managing national injury management programs
  • Experience managing multi-jurisdictional legislative compliance obligations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Exceptional problem solving and root cause identification skills
  • Sound analytic and decision-making abilities
